Week beginning of 2nd December 2019
What a special week we had!
On Wednesday, the children were treated to a Living Nativity for a day. All the children from Waterside and the Nursery School enjoyed the stable scene with Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the various animals. If they wished, the children could stroke the goats, sheep and baby donkeys. They loved watching the giant rabbits hop around the manger as well as the colourful chickens in their pen. The children greatly enjoyed this opportunity which brought the story of Christmas to life in a vibrant and attractive way.
On Friday, Ellie, one of our teachers, and her friend Andy, treated the children from Waterside and the nursery to a Christmas concert. Ellie played the saxophone and clarinet whilst Andy played the keyboard. The children learnt about the different musical instruments and joined in by singing.
The children in all the rooms had fun building a Christmas grotto. They learnt how to ensure that it stayed up. They love seeing the decorated tree and their classrooms full of the Christmas decorations they made as well as the painted window.
The children created a nativity scene and read and acted out the story of Christmas, using a range of props they made. They made dough and play dough - they are getting very proficient at measuring and mixing ingredients. They cut out different shapes from dough which they then painted.
The children created some beautiful calendars, which they decorated with handprints and potato and sponge prints cut into different shapes. They learnt about the months and days in the year.
The children are also very busy learning all the words for the Christmas songs for our carol concert.
