More Able

Norcot Early Years Centre welcomes children of all abilities ensuring that every child accesses a ‘creative learning journey’.

For children that are more able in one or more areas of the EYFS curriculum we offer an exciting, engaging environment that promotes deeper learning by encouraging creativity, problem solving and thinking skills. Taking a playful approach your child will be encouraged to explore concepts in new ways, make connections and develop their metacognition (thinking about thinking).

These skills will be modelled and scaffolded by sensitive adults making use of thinking vocabulary, “Let’s try…I wonder….What if….’?” Depth of learning will be supported across the curriculum through the characteristics of effective learning and teaching.

Playing and Exploring by being encouraged to:

  • plan and think ahead about how they will explore or play.

  • make independent choices.

Active Learning by being encouraged to:

  • correct their mistakes independently

Creating and Thinking Critically by being supported to:

  • Review the progress towards their goal.
  • Check how well they are doing
  • Solve real life problems
  • Feel confident to share their own ideas
